Ride with us in Oxford

Rides for women

We had our first JoyRiders Oxford ride in early 2021 and we've gone from strength to strength since then! We ride around Oxford and the suburbs, where we're blessed to have a lot of excellent cycle paths (even though they don't always join up!) that take us around places like East Oxford, Marston, Iffley, Jericho, Wolvercote, Botley, Headington, and Barton on quiet roads, cycle tracks, paths, and tow paths.

We love it when we discover new things on our doorstep. All our rides have a cafe or snack stop, and these are a very important chance to get to chat with and get to know other women from all walks of life, and to make new friends. We want to share the joy and sense of achievement that our bike rides bring!

Our ride leaders

What to bring on your first ride

With our group you will need to bring your own bike and helmet.

You should also bring water and a snack and dress for the weather as we'll be riding come rain or shine!

Your bike should be working properly and the tyres pumped up.

You should use these simple checks:

  • Air - are your tyres pumped up?
  • Brakes - are your brakes working?
  • Chain - is your bike chain on? Is it rusty and stretched?

What to expect on your first ride

When you book your first ride, the ride leader will get in touch with you to introduce themself. If you need to borrow a bike, this is a good time to check whether they have bikes to borrow for the ride.

The ride leader might ask if you want to be added to the group WhatsApp group. This is a good way to get a feel of what everyone is like, but you don't have to join if you don't want to!

On the day of the ride, check your bike is working before you leave the house. Try to arrive at the starting point a bit early in case you get lost, as they're sometimes difficult to find.

When everyone is together, the ride leader will introduce you to the group and make sure you have someone to ride with.
