Since 2016, we have been helping women, families, and even a handful of men get on their bikes. We’ve helped thousands of people learn to ride for the first time and been on thousands of rides for beginner riders too.
We run regular groups for casual riders and a special volunteer ride leader programme. Our focus is on fun, rather than speed or endurance. We ride at the pace of the least experienced rider and never leave anyone behind.
We want to help more women to ride independently and grow in confidence.
We are a not-for-profit, community interest company and incredibly grateful for all of our brilliant volunteers.
Mariam
Chief Executive
Mariam was raised in the Netherlands and Germany. Being Dutch, and a lifelong cyclist, when she moved to London in 2008 she was shocked on how little cycling was happening.
Mariam is also a member of the London Cycling Campaign's Women’s Network steering group.
Scott
General Manager
Scott puts the ‘man’ in ‘General Manager’. He has been riding around London since 2016 and trained as a cycling instructor in 2019 to help more people bike about town.
Scott works with the boroughs to deliver our Ride! program.
Maya
Volunteer Coordinator + Director
Maya has been involved with JoyRiders since 2020 as a Ride Leader, Admin and more recently joined the Board of Directors.
She has been enjoying riding her bike since her childhood and is glad to be involved in an organisation enabling those less confident to ride too.
Board of directors
Our board of directors are volunteers who support our not-for-profit organisation’s strategic aims.
Felicity began cycling during childhood and hasn’t stopped. She has been a lifelong cyclist using her bike for transport, commuting and holidays. She moved up to South Manchester from London 30 years ago and has relished exploring many of the country lanes and urban routes the area has to offer.
In February 2021 she saw an advert for leaders for JoyRiders Manchester and, having just retired from teaching, it was the ideal time to get involved. Felicity and the team are passionate about passing on the love of cycling to women and giving them the confidence to get out there to ride and explore!
Annette learned to ride a bike as a child but didn't ride as an adult until moving to Munich. Cycling soon became her main form of transport, thanks to Munich's citywide network of safe cycle routes there. On moving to Oxford, Annette was determined to carry on cycling but first had to build her confidence riding on roads.
Annette was inspired by JoyRiders' ethos of women sharing their local tips with other women and offering some camaraderie and support while they get started. Having discovered JoyRiders during lockdown, Annette trained as a Ride Leader and started the JoyRiders Oxford group in early 2021.
We are thankful for our founder, Carolyn, and our founder and first Chief Executive, Vieve, for their hard work establishing JoyRiders and for their continued support.
