Big Welcome

We want everyone to have the freedom to ride. As a not-for-profit, JoyRiders exists to help everyone experience the freedom and joy of riding a bike, whether standard or non-standard design. We want everyone to feel included; and to do this, we need your help.

This policy applies to all of our riders, ride leaders, instructors, mechanics and our volunteer board of directors.

We organise  our rides and our cycle skills sessions to bring different people together. We also run rides for specific groups of people, such as our women’s rides.

We want everyone living as a woman to be able to come to our women’s rides and feel the joy of our camaraderie, without the fear of being treated differently. This means that our women’s rides are open to anyone living as a woman, and this includes trans women.

Our rides are open to people from all over the world with every experience imaginable, and to riders of all ethnicities. We will be welcoming to everyone and not make assumptions about people’s experiences.

Discrimination by riders, ride leaders, instructors, mechanics or the JoyRiders volunteer board of directors, including but not limited to racism, misogyny, homophobia and ableism will not be tolerated. Discrimination comes out in how we behave, the opportunities we give people, the things we say or the ‘jokes’ we make. Everyone has the responsibility to challenge this behaviour when they see it and JoyRiders take this very seriously. You should report this behaviour to your ride leader or to Mariam (Chief Executive), Scott (General Manager), Maya (Volunteer Coordinator) or our board of directors, who will investigate this as a complaint.

We’re proud that our most successful groups and training sessions are friendly, respectful and treat everyone as an individual person. More friendly places to ride encourages more riders.
